Now I See
Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen
The NOW I SEE collection is a unique quartet of board books that playfully shows the changing seasons from a child’s point of view. Sparse and rhythmic text invites readers to explore a rural setting, gently introducing everyday words and the different seasons, depicted in minimalist images infused with light. Envisioned as a set that can also be read as standalone books, each of the four volumes in this series has identical text but different illustrations that reflect the time of year. A tree that has full green leaves in Now I See Summer sheds russet leaves in Now I See Fall, the snowy sky of Now I See Winter gives way to the rainy sky in Now I See Spring. The perfect hat changes with each season too—from a yellow rain hat to a baseball cap to a plaid hat with flaps to a knitted toque.
