Sharks have been around since the dinosaurs and have some of the most unique adaptations of the animal kingdom. From the thresher’s whip-like tale to nurse shark’s bioluminescence to the hammer head’s, well, hammer head, these adaptations have helped them survive for millennia.
What if your kid could design their own shark with unique adaptations? What would they include?
Ask your kid to draw their own shark creation and share some details about the adaptation(s) they’ve chosen in writing. Have them think about where the shark lives and how they eat and socialize.

After they’ve designed your shark and shared information about them, you can enter their work into the form below for the 2027 National Geographic Kids Almanac Challenge for a chance to win.
