— It's a jordan peele's "US" VibE —
Horrifying secrets and shadowy figures abound in Jordan Peele’s spine-chilling Us—as they do in Jackal, by Erin E. Adams, a novel about a woman who reluctantly returns to her predominantly white hometown, where a string of young black girls have gone missing over the years near a foreboding forest.
A Note From The Author
Dear Reader,
My favorite aspect of the horror genre is that it’s a space where we are encouraged to be uncomfortable. In his films, Jordan Peele dissects and deconstructs mundane moments until they become something entirely new, but still eerily familiar. It’s a wonderful way to name hard truths about ourselves and society that might otherwise be ignored or dismissed as too abrasive. When I was writing Jackal I turned to his work over and over again for inspiration. Peele’s slasher film, Us, definitely has ripples throughout Jackal. Both our heroines face a bloody reckoning of race, class and self that neither are guaranteed to survive.
In Us, I love the moments where we, the audience, realize the main character, our guide, knows more than she’s letting on. No matter how many times I watch it, this suspicion never ceases to pull me through the story looking for clues Peele plants. Its up to me to discover the secrets his main character is hiding from us and from herself. As my main character leads us through Jackal, I can’t wait for readers to uncover dark and uncomfortable truths with her.

— It's A JURASSIC PARK VibE —
“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” As in Jurassic Park, science goes too far in the sci-fi mystery The Paradox Hotel. (And yes, there are even dinosaurs.)
— It's A Yellowjackets VibE —
Loving the Lord of the Flies-esque Showtime hit, Yellowjackets? Keep the “survival in the wilderness” vibes going strong with The Last One, a novel about a reality TV show contestant whose survival skills—and mind—are tested.
