Learn More About the American Himalayan Foundation:

Jon Krakauer first became involved with the American Himalayan Foundation (AHF) during the aftermath of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. For him, working with AHF was a way to honor and repay the immense kindness and courage shown by the Sherpas who helped him and many other survivors through that tragedy. Today, as the Chairman of AHF’s board, Krakauer continues advocate for communities in the Himalaya, supporting the organization’s work to reach over 300,000 Sherpas, Nepalis, and Tibetans in need every year.

Since 1981, the American Himalayan Foundation has empowered people across the Himalaya to build better futures by providing education, healthcare, and sustainable community development. Guided by deep respect for local traditions, the organization works closely with a trusted network of long-term partners to improve daily life, expand access to opportunity, and adapt to a changing world. Their community-driven approach ensures that help can reach people in need in the ways that matter most. To learn more about AHF, visit www.himalayan-foundation.org.
