Overview

This is the dedicated Influencer FAQ page for titles published under the Portfolio and Optimism imprints published by Penguin Random House - available to US residents only.

Here's how it works: roughly once every 1-2 months you’ll receive an email with a list of upcoming titles. You will be able to choose from a group of our titles and we will send them digitally or physically. It's that easy!

Wondering if you qualify? Submit your application here, and we will be in touch if you meet our program requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I request a copy of your upcoming books?

We love hearing of your interest and excitement in supporting our books and authors! For books that are available for influencer review, here’s how to request a copy:

  • Apply for the Influencer Program for Ambitious Readers here

    • Accepted applicants will receive an email with new title offerings every 1-2 months.

    • Completing the form does not guarantee a review copy.

    • At this time, we are only offering finished books for your top choices for frontlist and backlist titles, offering digital galleys via NetGalley for the rest.

    • Please direct any questions to portfoliomarketing@penguinrandomhouse.com with "Portfolio Influencer Request" in the subject line.

    • Learn more about how Penguin Random House works with influencers here.

How do you select who receives a review copy?

We review the requests from the Influencer Review Copy Request Form and consider the following:

  • Social platform activity

  • Based in the US

  • Minimum of 1k followers or demonstrated high engagement/growth rate

  • We prioritize BIPOC reviewers and give special consideration to Own Voices reviewers

Can I work with Penguin Random House US if I reside outside of the United States?

At this time, Penguin Random House US is only able to work with influencers within the 50 United States. However, we are a global company with offices around the world and we recommend getting in touch with the Penguin Random House office in the country where you reside. You can also reach out to our International team at InternationalPublicity@penguinrandomhouse.com to check on the rights restrictions and availability of review copies on a title-by-title basis.

I was selected and received an Influencer Review Copy! What now?

Yay! We are excited for you to read and join the conversation online about the title you received.  If you are selected to receive an Influencer Review Copy, a member of our team will be in touch via email from portfoliomarketing@penguinrandomhouse.com

If you read and love the book(s) you requested, feel free to join the conversation online and tag us @PortfolioBooks but there is no requirement to do so.If you’d like to post, here are some of Portfolio’s ideas and examples for engaging posts:

As per official Penguin Random House policy, all posts must follow the FTC guidelines for the use of endorsements and testimonials in advertising.

I am interested in a particular title/author but I do not see it listed as available.

Please email portfoliomarketing@penguinrandomhouse.com with “Influencer Book Request” in the subject line. In the body of your email, please include the book title, author, and ISBN, as well as information about you -- your platform, handle, URL, and follower count.

I don't qualify for the program yet - are there other ways I can get involved?

Please note, that we may be offering additional titles via sweepstakes and giveaways, hosted on our imprint social media channels or Goodreads. We invite you to follow us to learn more about additional opportunities to win copies of our books.

Portfolio/Optimism: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn Pinterest, Tiktok

Do you offer compensation for posting about books?

In accordance with Penguin Random House influencer policy, we work with influencers in the following ways:

  1. Penguin Random House does not offer monetary compensation for buzz mailings that have no posting requirement. For buzz mailings, we will provide you with books and give you the opportunity to read and review them, but you are under no obligation to do so.

  2. Penguin Random House does offer monetary compensation for sponsored content where posting is required. These paid posts will be within specific parameters, including timing and content guidelines, and potentially content approval.

At Portfolio and Optimism, we primarily work with bookstagrammers through our seasonal mailings, where we provide free copies in exchange for potential posts. Outside of this program, sometimes paid campaigns are built for specific titles. Not every title receives a paid influencer campaign, but on the rare occasion that there is one, a separate team outside of the Portfolio influencer program team handles them. For general questions about paid campaigns, please email portfoliomarketing@penguinrandomhouse.com and put “Paid Influencer Campaign” in your subject line.
