In partnership with Jacqueline Woodson, Listening Library is producing a special multi-cast edition of Brown Girl Dreaming to celebrate its enduring legacy. We would love to hear from fans of Jacqueline Woodson and have their voices be a part of this new audiobook edition of her powerful memoir.

How to Participate:

  • Submit a brief audio clip (no longer than 2 minutes; accepted formats are MP3 or WAV) telling us what Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson means to you.

To get you started, here are some thought-starters:  

  • Share a memory about reading Brown Girl Dreaming for the first time: Where were you? How old were you?  

  • What is your favorite poem from Brown Girl Dreaming, why is it your favorite?  

  • What does it mean to dream?  

Rules and Guidelines: 

Please read these terms before participating to ensure your submission qualifies for consideration:

  • You must be 18 years or older and a U.S. resident.

  • Your story must be entirely original and user-generated, without the use of AI.

  • You may submit multiple entries (up to 2), but please submit them individually.

  • PRH Audio/Listening Library reserves the right to edit submissions for editorial or promotional purposes.

  • Submissions will be accepted from February 5, 2026 through March 3, 2026 only.

By Submitting Your Memory, You Acknowledge and Agree to the Following:

  • Submitting an audio clip does not guarantee inclusion in the audiobook. Penguin Random House is not entering into any agreement with you to use your Submission or maintain its confidentiality.

  • You grant Penguin Random House LLC ("PRH") and its respective directors, officers, employees, parent subsidiaries, affiliates, successors and assignees a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable, exclusive license to use, publish, reproduce, modify, create derivative works, publicly perform, distribute audio, as well as your name, state, age, and voice as they pertain to your submission for the BROWN GIRL DREAMING Multi-Cast Audiobook Campaign (the “Submission”) in whole or in part, in any and all media now or hereafter known, including but not limited to the Brown Girl Dreaming audiobook and the advertising, publicity and promotion thereof, for any purpose whatsoever, without further permission and without consideration or payment of any kind. Additionally, you release and discharge Companies or their assignees from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of the Submission, or you, your name, state, age, audio, or voice, including without limitation any and all claims for libel, invasion of privacy, or involving any of my rights of publicity (if any).

  • You confirm that the Submission does not include obscene, offensive, or inappropriate (in the Companies’ sole and absolute discretion) material or defame any person, or otherwise infringe on any person’s proprietary rights. You also confirm that you recorded the Submission yourself (or have secured permission from the person that recorded it) and have secured permission from any persons who appear in the Submission.

  • You have read and agree to Penguin Random House's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use and understand that Penguin Random House collects certain categories of personal information for the purposes listed in that policy, discloses, sells, or shares certain personal information and retains personal information in accordance with the policy. You can opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information anytime.     

  • PRH reserves the right to update, modify, or replace any part of these terms, or to cancel the campaign at their sole discretion, by posting updates to this page.
